0240 Greenspace in Relation to Sleep Health among a Racially and Ethnically Diverse Cohort of US Women

چکیده
Abstract Introduction Exposure to greenspace has been associated with better sleep health by potentially supporting salubrious activities (e.g., physical activity), buffering noise, improving air quality, and promoting mental health. However, most prior studies have included few dimensions or lacked racial/ethnic diversity. Further, access is not equitably distributed across groups due structural racism, including environmental justice issues. Methods To investigate cross-sectional associations between health, overall race/ethnicity, we used data collected at enrollment (2003-2009) from women in the Sister Study (n=1,575 Hispanic/Latina, n=4,421 non-Hispanic (NH)-Black, n=41,628 NH-White). Participants’ home addresses (X-Y coordinates) were linked NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (250m resolution) during July of year capture tertiles proximity greenspace. Participants reported multiple short duration (< 7 hours), insomnia symptoms, frequent napping, debt (≥2-hour difference average longest shortest a week). Adjusting for both individual- neighborhood-level sociodemographic characteristics, log Poisson regression robust variance estimated prevalence ratios (PRs) low/moderate vs. high poor sleep, race/ethnicity. Results Among participants (mean±SD age=55.7±9.0 years), Hispanic/Latina NH-Black comprised 8% population greenspace, 15% shorter poorer quality compared NH-White participants. After adjustment neighborhood disadvantage, density, was an higher napping (PR=1.08 [95% CI:1.02-1.15]). Low/moderate also marginally (PR=1.01 [0.98-1.05]), symptoms (PR=1.03 [0.99-1.07]), comorbid (PR=1.04 [0.99-1.10]) but debt. Associations did vary Conclusion Low moderate groups, as beneficial all. Although replication longitudinal objective measures warranted, interventions may improve health; equitable help address disparities. Support (if any) NIEHS (Z1AES103325[CLJ] Z01ES044005[DPS]):

Health system factors and antihypertensive adherence in a racially and ethnically diverse cohort of new users.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to identify potential health system solutions to suboptimal use of antihypertensive therapy in a diverse cohort of patients initiating treatment. METHODS Using a hypertension registry at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of 44 167 adults (age, ≥18 years) with hypertension who were new users of antihyperten...
متن کاملThe relation between polyculturalism and intergroup attitudes among racially and ethnically diverse adults.
Research on intergroup ideologies (colorblindness, multiculturalism) has increased our understanding of intergroup attitudes. This article reports empirical tests of the relation between a newly studied ideology, polyculturalism (ideology focusing on interactions and connections among racial/ethnic groups), and intergroup attitudes. Across four studies (with racially/ethnically diverse U.S. und...

INTRODUCTION Obesity is common among reproductive age women and disproportionately impacts racial/ethnic minorities. Our objective was to assess racial/ethnic differences in obesity-related dietary behaviors among pregnant and postpartum women, to inform peripartum weight management interventions that target diverse populations. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 212 Black (44%)...
متن کاملThe relation between perceived unfair treatment and blood pressure in a racially/ethnically diverse sample of women.
Elevated blood pressure is an important public health problem in midlife women, especially among minority groups. Few studies have examined the impact of perceived unfair treatment due to different factors such as racism, sexism, or ageism on blood pressure. By use of a racially/ethnically diverse community sample of nearly 3,300 midlife women enrolled in the longitudinal, multisite Study of Wo...
متن کاملLower health literacy predicts smoking relapse among racially/ethnically diverse smokers with low socioeconomic status
BACKGROUND Nearly half of U.S. adults have difficulties with health literacy (HL), which is defined as the ability to adequately obtain, process, and understand basic health information. Lower HL is associated with negative health behaviors and poor health outcomes. Racial/ethnic minorities and those with low socioeconomic status (SES) are disproportionately affected by poor HL. They also have ...
